About Us

Mission

The mission of Constructive Play Design is to make more types of play, and especially loose-part play, available in all of the places where there are children.

To design play apparatus and generate programming that embodies and supports the Play Patterns Theory developed by Jay Beckwith, which identifies those behaviors that are intrinsic to children by which they achieve maximum development benefit.

Goals

  • To help make loose-part play ubiquitous by creating and promoting a catalog of existing, and design new, loose-part play systems and their supportive storage and venues.
  • Become the go-to R&D consulting company to develop or enhance existing play products with Green Edge technologies.
  • To promote multi-age and parent-child play.
  • To promote and develop “Green Edge” solutions and systems.
  • To work in a way that embodies the most environmentally .appropriate products, marketing and distribution programs that address the impacts of climate change.

Means

  • To collaborate with leading producers and distributors of early childhood education and play products to create new and expand existing loose-part play systems.
  • Give children direct experience with Green Edge technology through, for example, play products, rental programs, and lending libraries.
  • Adapt or create play apparatus to be sustainable by locating and utilizing such materials as recycled high durability cardboard, petroleum-free plastics, sustainably grown and toxin free wood, and reused products, and to find ways to repurpose industrial by-products.
